What we collect
Halton Family Network collects information that you choose to submit through business, event, deal, correction, resource, claim, advertising-inquiry and newsletter forms. Depending on the form, this can include your name, email address, business contact information, a source URL and the details you ask us to review.
Security and abuse prevention
Public forms use bot protection and rate limiting. The service may process the Cloudflare-provided client IP address for security and abuse prevention. It is converted with a server-side keyed hash into a short-lived pseudonymous fingerprint for rate limiting and is not intentionally published or stored in raw form by this feature.
Anonymous search-demand signals
To improve local coverage, site search may store only the normalized search phrase, an optional Halton municipality, the number of matching results, the number of category matches and the time of the search. Site-search improvement data does not include an email address, IP address, cookie identifier, browser user-agent or device fingerprint. These aggregate signals are used to identify searches where local coverage could be improved.
Aggregate search performance
The site may import page-level search performance totals such as date, site path, impressions, clicks and average search position. This performance information is aggregate page data only and does not include names, email addresses, IP addresses, cookies, search-user identifiers or device fingerprints. It is used to identify pages that may need editorial or search-quality review.
How information is used
Submission information is used to review, verify, correct and publish local directory content, respond to claims, prevent spam and operate the site. Newsletter information is used only for the subscription topic selected by the subscriber. We do not ask users to submit confidential, medical, financial-account or other highly sensitive personal information through community forms.
Storage and service providers
The site uses Cloudflare infrastructure and Turnstile bot verification. Information processed by those services is subject to their applicable service terms and privacy practices. If additional analytics, advertising, email-delivery or customer-management providers are enabled, this policy will be updated to reflect those changes.
Public listing data
Published place, event and deal information is intended to describe public-facing organizations and offerings. Whenever possible, editorial records are checked against first-party or official sources. A business owner or resident can request a correction through the site.
Near Me location
The Near Me page requests browser location only after you choose to use it. Coordinates are used only to calculate nearby results after you choose to share your location. They are not added to the page URL, saved in your browser by this feature or retained as part of site-search analytics. Nearby results are limited to listings with verified location data.
Newsletter delivery
Newsletter signups use double opt-in. Unsubscribe links use high-entropy bearer tokens derived from a protected server-side signing secret. The site stores one-way lookup hashes rather than the raw unsubscribe token, and older valid hashes may be retained so previously delivered messages continue to provide a working unsubscribe path. Newsletter delivery is available only to confirmed subscribers, and subscriber data is not sold to advertisers.
Retention and choices
Pending submissions may be retained while they are reviewed and for a reasonable period needed for moderation, fraud prevention and recordkeeping. Operational security and automation records are retained for bounded periods appropriate to troubleshooting and audit needs. Newsletter subscribers can unsubscribe using the link provided in delivered messages. To request a correction or deletion of information you submitted, use the correction form and identify the relevant record.
Privacy contact
For an access, correction or deletion request concerning personal information, email hello@haltonlocallife.ca. Include enough detail to locate the relevant submission or account, but do not send passwords or other sensitive credentials.
Advertising inquiries
Advertising request forms collect the contact and business information you choose to provide so the operator can review fit and respond to the request. Submitting an inquiry does not create a public sponsored placement. Commercial inquiry data is not used to change organic editorial rankings automatically.
Policy changes
We may update this notice when the way the site handles information changes, including when new analytics, advertising or email-delivery services are introduced.
